The process we use to clean animal skulls is hot water maceration or the boil method. This process allows us to clean and sanitize the skulls quickly. The skulls are then whitened and sealed. Sealing the specimens allows for easy cleaning and prevents deterioration. There are other processes to clean skulls but we prefer the boil method because of the ability to create a high-quality product in a short amount of time for quicker return to customers. As a matter of personal preference, I don’t use beetles. However, they clean well but it takes the fun out of it for us!
